Becoming an Agro-Export Territory: The Production of Nature on the Cheap (session in English)

18 September 2026

SP Seminar – Grande Salle Longelles (booked)

Miguel Angel Sanchez Garcia is a Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Murcia, Spain. His research focuses on the socio-spatial transformation of the Murcia region into an agro-export enclave. His presentation will examine, firstly, how international quality certifications have transformed relationships with nature, its uses, and even its very definition within Murcian agriculture. Secondly, drawing on the example of lorry drivers in Murcia, he will explore how these quality standards contribute to increasingly precarious working conditions within agro-export supply chains. The presentation will be delivered in English, with PowerPoint slides in French.
