GS. LONGELLES

As part of the CESAER Social Sciences Seminar, we will welcome Mario Bilella for a presentation entitled: The Meaning of (Dis)placement: The Production of Space and Social Reproduction among the Newly Arrived Cultural Petite Bourgeoisie in a Gentrifying Rural Town This presentation examines the social transformations of rural areas through the study of the newly arrived cultural petite bourgeoisie in a gentrifying rural town. Drawing on an analysis of the residential and social trajectories of these new residents, Mario Bilella will explore the links between residential mobility, the production of space, and strategies of social reproduction. In particular, the presentation will examine what it means to “move” to a rural area and how, in turn, the settlement of these new residents contributes to the transformation of that area.
